Q. Do I have to be an Australian resident?
A. To apply for a Personal Loan, you'll need to be an Australian resident.
Q. What if the majority of my income is from Centrelink?
A. We can help but there are some rules we have to follow. Your debt repayments can’t be more than 20% of your Centrelink income. For example, if you receive $700 per fortnight from Centrelink, your collective repayments on all short-term cash loans cannot exceed 20% of that amount, i.e. $140 per fortnight. That includes your loans with other lenders.
Q. Can I apply if I am in a Part 9 Debt Agreement?
A. If you are currently in a part 9 Debt Agreement, we are unable to process your loan application. However, if you have previously been in a part 9 Debt Agreement which has been successfully discharged, we'll assess your application on your current situation.
Q. Do I get instant approval for a Personal Loan?
A. Though we don’t offer instant approval, we’ll only need to see your documentation once your application is accepted. The sooner we have all the documentation we need to determine if a loan is suitable, the quicker you will have a result. Depending on who you bank with, we should have the loan funds in your account within 24 hours of receiving a complete application.
Q. Can I apply if I have a bad credit history?
A. Yes, you are still eligible to apply. Credit history only forms one part of the applications process and other information, such as employment and expenses, is also considered as part of the assessment.
Q. How long before I get the money?
A. It depends on who you bank with. Assuming we have all the supporting documentation we need to assess your loan suitability, we will have the funds in your bank account within 24 hours for Personal Loans.

Our Small Personal Loans incur an Establishment Fee equalling 20% of the amount borrowed and a monthly fee of 4% of the amount borrowed. Our Medium Personal Loans incur and establishment fee of $400 and interest at an annual cost rate of 48%. For example, a small loan of $1000 over 9 months has fees and charges totalling $560 (1 x $200 + 9 x $40) therefore a total repayment of $1560. The maximum annual percentage rates on our loans is 162.5%. The minimum loan term is 4 months and a maximum of 12 months for small amount loans and 24 months for medium amount loans. Online applications have a default 9 month term. Our loans are repayable in weekly, fortnightly or monthly instalments. Loans can be settled early with no penalty and fees will only be charged whilst there is an outstanding balance on the loan, hence early settlement will reduce the amount payable on the loan.

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (the financial regulator) has concerns that the way Cash Converters assessed certain small amount loans may have broken Australian credit laws. As a result, Cash Converters has agreed to a customer remediation program which is underway.
